Job Title: Pharmacy Technician II
Location: Remote (Houston, TX area required)
Assignment Duration: 6 Months (Contract with possible extension)
Schedule: Monday Friday, 9:00 AM 6:00 PM CT

Position Overview

The Pharmacy Technician II supports Pharmacy by working closely with pharmacists to accurately prepare, process, and coordinate prescription orders in a high-volume, service-oriented environment. This role is heavily phone-based, supporting Project Ascend, with a strong focus on outbound provider communication, data entry, and referral processing.

The ideal candidate has 2 3+ years of consistent pharmacy technician experience, preferably in hospital, specialty, or managed care pharmacy settings, and is comfortable meeting strict productivity metrics in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist

  • Prepare, count, label, and package prescription medications for pharmacist verification

  • Locate correct medication and strength to complete order picking

  • Place outbound calls to provider offices (approx. 90% outbound / 10% inbound)

  • Perform accurate data entry related to prescription orders and referrals

  • Coordinate inventory purchasing, receiving, and reconciliation

  • Maintain inventory recap reports and prescription logs

  • Retrieve, document, and properly dispose of expired or discontinued medications

  • Calibrate pharmacy equipment and document calibration per policy

  • Maintain pharmacy temperature logs, cleaning logs, and maintenance documentation

  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate prescription fulfillment

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality assurance, accreditation, and state/federal regulations

  • Meet productivity expectations (approximately 72 referrals per hour)

  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with policies and standards

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 3 years of consistent experience as a Pharmacy Technician

  • Experience in hospital, specialty, or managed care pharmacy preferred

  • Strong phone-based customer service experience

  • No employment gaps

Licensure / Certification:

  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) Registration Required upon hire

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) Preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data entry intensive pharmacy experience

  • High-volume outbound calling experience ( 80+ calls/day)

  • Familiarity with medications for chronic or debilitating conditions

  • Prior experience supporting prior authorizations, referrals, or specialty workflows
