Fire Protection Design Engineer Location Los Angeles, CA :

We are seeking a highly skilled, ambitious, & creative Fire Protection Engineer to standup a new fire protection program for a new high industrial hazard nuclear facility onsite in California at the conceptual-preliminary design phase with a top talent team that does not tolerate mediocrity. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards and regulatory requirements, contributing to the protection of personnel and infrastructure associated with chemical, cryogenic, radiological, and other hazards.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage fire protection programs to ensure compliance with strict safety regulations.
  • Create critical documentation required by regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and implement advanced fire protection strategies tailored to specialized facility needs.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and hazard evaluations with a strong focus on regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate fire protection measures with broader engineering systems.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, fire safety evaluations, and system designs.
  • Stay ahead of emerging fire protection technologies, industry standards, and regulatory shifts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in engineering principles and applied fire protection strategies.
  • Ability to evaluate complex fire safety systems using engineering expertise and technical tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Deep understanding of NFPA codes, IBC, industry regulations, and safety compliance frameworks.
  • Prior nuclear experience is not required.
  • Proficiency in fire modeling software and advanced analysis tools.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including engagement with internal teams and regulatory agencies.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Background in high-hazard industrial environments, requiring specialized fire protection expertise.
  • Proven ability to solve complex fire safety challenges with an innovative approach.
  • Experience working with large-scale fire suppression systems, emergency response infrastructure, and compliance-driven designs.
  • Hands-on knowledge of fire alarms, suppression systems, mass notification protocols, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
  • NFPA 805 or other risk based standards.
  • Advanced degrees in Fire Protection, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Entrepreneurial innovative spirit to drive highest “level of safety out per dollar in” practical.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
