Job Description

Practice: Adult Primary Care Clinic Schedule: Part-time (10–20 hours/week) Duration: 6–12 months (flexible; summer or academic year)

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated pre-health bachelor’s-level student  (pre-med, pre-PA, public health, health informatics, or related field) to join our clinic as a Pre-Health Student Assistant . This is a paid internship  designed to provide meaningful exposure to population health, quality metrics, AI-supported care coordination, and value-based care  within a physician-led primary care setting.

This role is ideal for students interested in medicine, healthcare systems, public health, or healthcare innovation  who want hands-on experience in how modern outpatient clinics improve outcomes at the population level.

What You Will Learn

Students in this role will gain real-world experience in:

  • Population health management and preventive care workflows
  • Quality metrics (HEDIS, ACO measures, chronic disease benchmarks)
  • How clinics track, report, and improve quality performance
  • Value-based care models in primary care
  • Care gap identification and outreach strategies
  • The role of AI tools  in care coordination and patient engagement
  • Clinic operations, team-based care, and interdisciplinary workflows

This is not a shadow-only position —you will contribute meaningfully to clinic operations while learning how data and systems improve patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with population health and quality improvement projects
  • Track and organize quality metrics under supervision
  • Help identify preventive care and chronic disease care gaps
  • Support care coordination and patient outreach initiatives
  • Assist with administrative and workflow tasks related to value-based care
  • Observe clinical visits when appropriate and with patient consent
  • Participate in team huddles and quality improvement discussions

Note: This role does not include scribing, diagnosing, or performing clinical procedures.

Training & Supervision

  • Paid, non-exempt employee (hours tracked; meal/rest breaks honored)
  • Structured onboarding and supervision
  • HIPAA and OSHA training provided
  • Assigned physician or senior staff mentor
  • Clear learning objectives and regular feedback

Affiliation with a school program is not required , but students are welcome to use this internship toward academic credit if their institution allows.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled bachelor’s-level student (or recent graduate)
  • Interest in medicine, public health, healthcare systems, or health technology
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional communication and reliability
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Why This Role Is Unique

  • Exposure to AI-supported population health initiatives
  • Hands-on experience with value-based care , not just fee-for-service medicine
  • Mentorship from a physician-led care team
  • Strong foundation for medical school, PA school, MPH, or health policy pathways
  • Opportunity for a strong letter of recommendation based on performance

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Resume
  • Brief statement of interest describing your career goals and interest in population health or healthcare innovation
